Illustration Friday - Perspective sketch

Sketch of the Perspective topic. I hope I can get him done before friday.
I think i've become a little obsessed with drawing this penguin, but he's just too cute to not let him do more things in more illos. :)
It's kinda got two parts to the perspective theme. The size of the lady bug on his nose the closeness to him as well as the actual perspective his body. He's been fun to draw on this one.

New Character!

I've come up with this new character in the last month. He's so fun to draw and I find myself doodling all kinds of poses and costumes for him (usually at work...haha). He's been sent on postcards for birthdays and if someone just needs some extra encouragement. And maybe a smile :)

Cupcake Apron!!

This was the most frustrating project I've ever done, but it turned out soooooo cute!!
Let me just say, I'm NOT a sewer(?) at all and the so called "Easy" patterns for this design were NOT so Easy! Somebody lied...
Anyway, hahaha I decided to make this Craft Apron for my sister for her birthday. She's into making costumes and fun little pjs and whatnot on her little sewing machine. Before the apron and matching pin cushion I gave her she was using this little basket and a Victoria Secret dog (you know the ones they always have for special promotions that you put on the gift boxes?) well, she was using that as a Pin cushion. The dog looked like a Voodoo experiment... :/ So I decided she needed something that was usable for her craft and looked super cute!

The apron has 4 main pockets and then 2 small pen pockets or a place to put a seam ripper.

Without further adieu.... TA-DA!



The cupcake pin cushion is just tied on for now and she can take it off if she wishes. There's an elastic loop for scissors right underneath it too. The back ties are a white ribbon. I loved the way it turned out. I ended up finding a denim material that I used for a backing to make it a little stiff, otherwise it was very floppy and didn't hold up well.

Charcoal Drawings

These are some Illos I did during school in an Anatomy for the Artist class. Super fun projects and I learned a lot about using the space of the paper.


This first piece is of a made up creature. I combined a lion, eagle, and a mustang. It was really fun doing. This was the turning point in school where I realized the impact of this creature would have been stunning if I had done it larger...like a LOT larger!



This 2nd piece is a life portrait that had to be pretty much lifesize. I love saltwater fish and creatures so of course I turned myself into a mermaid! DUH! haha! this took two sections of 2ft wide butcher paper so you can see how big it is. It's very hard to get a photograph of it, but I need to document this better. So much fun to do, it kinda makes me want to do another...

Recipe Boxes

I'm finding more projects I've done this year, a lot of them weren't necessarily pieces of art but little crafty projects I did. Here's a recipe box I did for my cousin's Bridal shower in August. I stained the whole box a Mahogany and then used good papers to cover the sides, sanded down the edges, and then added an "aged" effect with the stain again on the corners. So far I've done 3 recipe boxes as Shower gifts and 1 Jewelery box for a friend.






If any one wants me to make one, let me know :) $18. They're really neat as a Bridal Shower gift.

My favorite from school - the "Eye Piece" !

We had to find interesting shots of various eyes and put them together. This is painted with gouache. :)

New Year's Resolution: Post more stuff on my Blog!

I gotta get on this thing! I'm making it a priority to get more content on this blog, it's lookin a little shabby... Alrighty! on to it!



This is a page from the book I'm redoing for my Aunt. It's called "The Tail of the Treble Clef Cat". Poor Treble has a long long long tail and he doesnt fit in with other people. This is his favorite fence where he sleeps... he's thinking about all the places he "didn't fit"

I've got a couple other illustrations and sketches on this story but they're still a work in progress. These two unfortunately were damaged when my apartment flooded last spring and they're slightly warped with a little discoloring. I'm debating starting over with a different medium that's a bit quicker than gouache but I haven't decided yet.
